Smokin' Ed Currie

THE MAN,

THE LEGEND.

THE MYTH,

The science of spice

It all started in the 80's when the spicy visionary Smokin' Ed Currie began growing peppers at home to investigate the correlation between personal lifestyle, habits and disease. By the 90's, Ed had pepper plants growing in every nook and cranny of his home, along with his family, friends and even his neighbors' houses.

But soon, the demand for his peppers grew so much that his wife Linda had to intervene. She realized that Ed's pepper obsession needed a farm of its own, so they created a much larger operation with over 100,000 pepper plants - one of the largest on the east coast. That's right, Ed had gone from pepper hoarder to pepper farmer, faster than you can say "holy jalapeño!"

With all this extra space, Ed let his creativity run wild and became a self-proclaimed mad scientist. He developed his famous Smokin' Ed's Carolina Reaper® pepper that went on to win a Guinness world record.

Nowadays, Ed and his team of pepper gurus can be found on the farm, supplying intense spice and heat to premier food providers all over the globe. And if you're feeling brave, you can also try their PuckerButtPepper Company Specialty Line of Spicy Sauces and Snacks. It's like a spicy adventure for your taste buds!

THE WORLD'S HOTTEST PEPPER

Smokin’ Ed gained the pepper industry’s attention when an NPR Reporter ate a small piece of Smokin' Ed's Carolina Reaper®, rolled on the floor, hallucinated and then shared his experiences with the national media. Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper® made global headlines when it was awarded the Guinness World Record for the World’s Hottest Chili; measuring over 1.64 million Scoville Heat Units.

The pepper is a beautiful bright red with a long stinger. Those who don't fear the Reaper are fools. It is Painfully Hot, with sweet, fruity undertones and hints of cinnamon and chocolate. It can be used to spice up your sauces, salsas or in combat.

You can grow the Hottest Pepper in the World, if you dare, with seeds harvested by our very own pepper guru, Ed Currie. Or try one of our sauces made with Smokin' Ed’s Carolina Reaper ® peppers.
